The city would just get noisier if the Centre passes amendments in the noise rule.
The amended rules say the district magistrate can give exemption for 15 days for bursting firecrackers and additional 15 days for the use of loudspeakers.
Also, the deadline for all these days can be extended from 10 pm to 12 am.
Awaaz Foundation, an anti-noise pollution NGO, has objected to the amendments and has submitted its suggestions to the Centre.
The Centre has drafted amendments to the Noise Pollution (regulation and control) Rules 2000. “The power to grant exemption should not be given to district magistrates as different areas will end up having different rules,” said founder of Awaaz foundation Sumaira Abdulali.
