Admissions for ATKT begin today

A circular issued by the deputy director’s office to junior colleges on Wednesday instructed colleges to put up notices specifying the number of vacant seats.

Following instructions from the deputy directorate of education of Mumbai, 800 junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad regions will distribute and accept forms from students seeking admissions to first-year junior college under the Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) scheme on Thursday.

It also asked colleges to distribute and accept forms from SSC students eligible to take admission to first-year junior college under the ATKT scheme on Thursday.

The circular allocates only one day for the procedure. “On Thursday, students must purchase and submit forms to junior colleges. If required we will extend the date for submission,” said Assistant Deputy Director of Education N.B. Chavan.

The lists of the number of vacant seats in junior college across zones will be available with the 18 zonal offices and five regional offices of the directorate of education, in Mumbai.

As per a high court judgment in September, students who failed in one or two subjects in the SSC exams conducted in March, are eligible for admission to first-year junior college.

In the Mumbai region, 32,017 students are eligible under this ATKT scheme.
