'All agencies in city should be accountable to one authority'

Pointing out that too many cooks were spoiling Mumbai's development broth, leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Council and senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde said that all agencies and officials in Mumbai should be answerable to a single authority.

Tawde said Mumbai was being run by multiple agencies which had a very low level of coordination between themselves. "Often, if an official from the Railways is summoned by the state he replies that he is not answerable to the state government. Everyone who works in the city including the agency and the official should be made answerable to a single authority. It could be the BMC or even the CM," he said

"Mumbai is practically run by multiple agencies like the BMC, the state government and MMRDA. However the blame for anything done wrong by any of the agencies falls on the BMC," Tawde added.

Tawde also said that there was a greater need for coordination between the state government and the BMC. "Everything cannot be left to the BMC alone. There is a pressing need for improved coordination between the state government and the BMC to ensure effective development of Mumbai," he said.
