AN Roy appointed state police chief

The Maharashtra government on Friday appointed AN Roy as the state police chief. He is the senior-most director general of police in the state. HT Correspondent reports.

This will be Roy’s second term, though he is scheduled to retire in four months.

The Indian Police Service officer of the 1972 batch had to be shifted out last year after the Bombay High Court cancelled his appointment on legal grounds. SS Virk replaced him. After Virk retired, the state chose Roy from among the three senior DGs, which include Hasan Gafoor and PP Shrivastav.

Home Minister R.R. Patil said Roy has been appointed because of his seniority.
