Angry citizens assault official in Kalyan over water crisis

Mayor Vayjanti Gholap-Gujar had to intervene and assured irate protesters that she will look into the matter, following which the situation eased.

Congress corporator Sachin Pote, who was leading the protest, said that people are tired of false assurances from the civic authorities.

“People have been facing water scarcity for the last six months, but there has been no improvement so far. The official apathy is appalling. Aggrieved citizens often call me and ask me to intervene. I have written many letters to civic officials, apprising them of the crisis, but they have not taken any measure so far to restore water supply.”

Pote threatened to intensify his movement if the mayor fails to take corrective steps to resolve the water crisis by Friday.

Sonawane said, “I was away in Mumbai when angry citizens barged into Khare’s office. I will look into the matter raised by Congress corporator, but the method adopted by them was not right.”
