Another name crops up in graft case

Mahimtura was arrested on May 17 by the ACB for demanding Rs 15 lakh, as bribe, from a builder to issue a No-Objection-Certificate (NoC) for his upcoming project. The bribe was accepted by two of Mahimtura’s aides.

Mahimtura, was remanded to ACB custody until May 26 on Monday.

Mahimtura had allegedly asked the developer to pay the bribe amount to his aides Jahambin Jumatiya and Kunal Dhuri, according to the ACB.

The court on Monday extended the custody of Jumatiya while Dhuri is in judicial custody.

“Shaizade is the new name that has cropped during the investigation,” said R.V. Kini, special public prosecutor.

Kini said that the ACB wanted to find out Shaizade’s exact role in the case. Further Kini also said that when Mahimtura’s aides were trapped, calls were made from Shaizade’s mobile number to Mahimtura’s mobile number.

He also made it clear that if Shaizade’s involvement in the case was established, he will be booked for extortion.

The officer said that the ACB has started recording the statement of the other four members of the Highrise Committee. The statement of Chandrakant Dattaray Chaudhary, an assistant engineer with the BMC, has already been recorded.

Choudhary, according to the ACB, had told the builder to approach Mahimtura for the NoC.
