The defunct electricity box that was uprooted by the driver of the Zen Estilo reduced the impact of the damage the car would have otherwise caused, the police said. It was only after colliding with the electricity box that the vehicle finally came to a halt as the driver was too shocked to get the vehicle under control as it was knocking down everything in its path.

“The vehicle was moving at a high speed. Had the electricity box not been there, it may have sped further, causing more damage,” said an officer from Ghatkopar police station. When questioned if there was any power outage because of the electricity box being uprooted, senior inspector CV Zendekar said, “It was an old and defunct electricity box. Hence, there was no outage because of the collision.”

“The actual power supply is now routed through a new box. The old electricity box may have helped saved a few lives,” added the officer. According to the investigating officer in the case, the driver was too shocked by what had happened and hence did not even mange to step on the brakes.

Chikne, who was already in a state of shock as he could not even step on the brake while the entire incident took place, left the car behind and fled the spot on foot. Those present at the spot rushed the victims to nearby Rajawadi hospital.
