This year, the IDOL has started online admissions for first-year BA and BCom courses. Nearly 10,000 commerce students and about 6,000 arts candidates join IDOL every year.

“The centres will collect the documents and sent them to us for scrutiny. The online process saves the travel time,” said D Harichandan, director, IDOL.

The Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, which conducts the admissions to junior colleges, will be working with IDOL. “They also plan to extend the online admission process to all courses by next year,” he said.

However, management council member Dilip Karande said that roping in cyber cafes is not the way to conduct admissions. “Why can’t the institute set up admission centres in affiliated colleges that have the machinery and expertise to scrutinise documents,” he asked.
