Multi-crore fake stamp paper scam accused Abdul Karim Telgi has approached the Bombay High Court seeking that videoconferencing facility be restarted between the Bangalore central prison — where he is lodged — and the special MCOCA court in Pune.
The division bench of Justice J.N. Patel and Justice Amjad Sayed on Tuesday asked the government to reply by January 7 and also directed to appoint a lawyer from the legal aid panel for Telgi.
The handwritten petition by Telgi says that since the videoconferencing facility was stopped, about seven of his cases going on in Pune have come to a standstill.
Telgi was arrested on November 7, 2001, in case lodged at Upparpeth police station, Bangalore. He has about 20 cases registered against him in various parts of country.
It has been two years since the videoconferencing facility at Pune special court was stopped. It was because of non-payment of bills by the Yerawada Central Prison, which is in-charge of the facilities at the special court, or due to the reason best known to him, states his petition.
Telgi, who is suffering from HIV/AIDS, uncontrolled diabetes, kidney problems, heart problems, hypertension among others, is rarely moved out from the prison due to security reasons.
