Early in the day, the 51-year-old Shiv Sena executive president was rushed to the hospital following complaints of chest pain. Uddhav, son of Sena chief Bal Thackeray, went through a series of check-ups and a coronary angiography before he was discharged in the evening.

According to hospital sources, he has about three coronary blockages, which might need to be surgically treated – either through angioplasty or a bypass surgery. But till late evening, the Thackeray family had not yet made up their mind on the surgical intervention and was consulting doctors on the next course of action.

Meanwhile, MNS chief and estranged cousin Raj reached Lilavati to check on Uddhav. Later, he met the Sena chief, which led to huge speculation in political circles that this unhappy moment could be a beginning for a patch-up.

Dr Jalil Parkar, chest physician, said, “He had chest discomfort for a few days now, for which he underwent routine investigation, coronary angiography.”

But Uddhav’s son Aditya said it was a planned visit. “His health is good. It was a planned test,” he said in a text message to HT when asked if he was rushed in emergency.
