A circular dated November 29, 2010, issued by the state additional director general of police (State Reserve Police Force) Sridevi Goel, a copy of which is available with the Hindustan Times, states that any policeman or officer aspiring to undertake commando training should be able to fulfill two criteria in order to become a commando.

The circular states that the Body Mass Index (BMI) of a commando should be under 25 and it lays down guidelines for computing. It states that an aspiring commando should weigh himself at the start of the commando training and should get that figure verified by a senior officer. Two days before the end of training, the aspiring commando should get himself weighed on the same machine and then calculate his BMI.

The circular also states that anyone intending to be part of the elite force should be able to dismantle weapons blindfolded. “Two days before the course ends, the commando should be able to demonstrate before his superior officer, his skill in assembling and dismantling weapons like a self loading rifle (SLR), AK rifles, a 9mm pistol and a 9mm carbine,” the circular further lays down.
