Venus Cultural Association has approached the Bombay High Court seeking permission to hold a two-day function at Shivaji Park, Dadar, to celebrate centenary celebration of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar’s great escape from the Andaman Jail.

A vacation bench of Justice S.J. Kathawala and Justice R.G. Ketkar has kept the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
Venus had acquired permission from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to hold a two-day function between May 29 and May 30 using loud speakers etc.
However, the corporation later revoked the permission following a high court order of May 5.
On May 5, the HC had asked the authorities to take steps to declare Shivaji Park as a silence zone as per the Pollution Control Regulations, 2000. The HC had passed an order on a public interest litigation filed by Wecom Trust and two local residents.
The court had granted exemption for three days when functions could be held at Shivaji Park - May 1 (Maharashtra Day) January 26 (Republic Day) and December 6 (Dr Ambedkar Jayanti).
