The supporters of yoga guru Baba Ramdev continued with their indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Mumbai though their number reduced drastically on Tuesday, the fourth day of the protest.
Only 25 supporters continued with their fast unto death on Tuesday; there were 76 people on hunger strike on the first day of the agitation on June 4 to support Baba Ramdev.
The volunteers of Patanjali Yog Samiti, Bharat Swabhiman Nyas and many other social institutions had joined the hunger strike at Azad Maidan in the city. However, most of them withdrew for health reasons or are fasting on alternate days.
“Twenty-five people are on hunger strike at Azad Maidan and around 40 volunteers are fasting during the day. Some people have returned to their respective districts, but continue to fast there,” said Suresh Naik, state president of the Patanjali Yog Committee.
A few of Baba Ramdev’s supporters have withdrawn from the hunger strike in Mumbai to participate in public processions and awareness programmes across the state.
“We are fasting as per our convenience either on alternate days or fasting throughout the day. This is to ensure that we don’t fall sick during the ongoing campaign,” said Raman Tiwari, 25, youth coordinator of the Bharat Swabhiman Nyas.
