The state government has shot off a circular to all bureaucrats asking them to declare a list of their immovable properties by January 31.

The circular, issued by the state’s general administration department (GAD) on January 19, is a reminder of a memorandum issued by the Centre’s department of personnel and training, which calls for all government babus to declare their property list annually as part of their civil service rules.

Officials will have to declare immovable properties that are owned, acquired, inherited or held by them on lease or mortgage, either in their names or in the name of relatives, or any other person dependent on them.

The circular makes it clear that bureaucrats who do not follow the order will face disciplinary action.

The move comes after revelations that several bureaucrats and their kin own flats in the Adarsh society, which was issued a demolition order on Sunday.

Bureaucrats are required to submit their immovable property returns in a disclosure form containing the details of the property and their current values. The annual income from properties also needs to be mentioned.
