The police want to ascertain if the firearm was being serviced and maintained after it went missing around 30 years ago.

According to the police, if the reports from the state forensic laboratory at Kalina revealed that the pistol was being serviced regularly, then they could register a case of negligence against the owner.

Meanwhile, the police called Varsha’s younger brother Anand for recording his statements. He is currently in Singapore.

Till date, the police have recorded the statements of five persons, including Asha Bhosle.

In her statement to the police, the singer said the gun used by Varsha was the same one that went missing at least 30 years ago. When she told them about the misplaced gun, the police revoked her licence.

She also said that her daughter was an alcoholic and hence was troubled by a liver ailment.

Police said they would seek legal opinion to check if the former owner of the gun could be booked for negligence.

The police are also in the process of investigating how the pistol came into Varsha’s possession after it was lost so many years ago.
