The complaint was lodged against Chopra, his brother Sanjay and his son Sanam a month ago. According to the police, Chopra has three flats in a building in Bandra (West). They had sold a second floor flat to four victims and collected several lakh rupees, the police said.

Jay Prithiani, one of the victims, had allegedly paid around Rs 90 lakh to the accused. He had completed the registration formalities after which he went to the society. There he learnt that the flat was mired in a legal dispute and hence technically could not be sold. He approached Chopra who refused to return his money.

Prithiani then approached the Bandra police and registered a case. “Chopra was produced in court and was remanded in police custody till Friday,” said Samad Shaikh, senior inspector of Bandra police station. htc
