Bandra gang rape victim wanted to withdraw complaint, GRP refused

The police said the woman, who was travelling to Delhi, was allegedly gang raped in an empty compartment of Lokshakti Express on April 3.

The Bandra GRP arrested Bandra residents Mohammed Shabbir Hussain (30) and Imran Khan (19) after the victim filed a first information report.

Later she told the police that she did not want to file the complaint. “She requested that the two men be let off but it was too late. She should have thought about it before approaching the police,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.

“We have booked the two men on charges of gang rape and they have been remanded to police custody until March 17,” said GRP Commissioner Tukaram Chavan.

Investigations have not been supporting the victim’s statement. The victim had told the police that she hails from Delhi and had come to Mumbai with a friend to visit Haji Ali. While her friend proceeded to Haji Malang at Kalyan, she decided to return to Delhi.
