Principals of BEd colleges have written to Rajan Welukar, vice-chancellor of the Mumbai University, about the delay. BEd is a one-year course offered in 90 colleges in the city of which 10 are aided colleges, one government and the rest are private.

“The circular says that the first semester is from July 4 to October 22 and second semester from November 14 to May 19, but our admission process is still on. Admissions began on July 25 and will end on September 11, so how can we follow the semester system,” said A Vaz, principal, St. Xavier’s Institute of Education at Churchgate, referring to a circular distributed by the University of Mumbai.

Delayed admissions ensure that the one-year course is curtailed to seven-and-a-half months. One reason for this delay in admissions is the delay in declaring final year graduate exam results. The 10 principals from aided colleges have asked the university to implement the system in the next academic year after all these issues are resolved.
