‘Beef up security at hospitals’

Having hit a roadblock for lack of clues in the kidnapping case of two-month-old Shahid Ansari, Govandi’s Senior Police Inspector DS Jodgudri has decided to update representatives of hospitals and clinics in the area about the importance of a basic security apparatus.

The absence of security cameras at the civic health centre from where Shahid was kidnapped, said Jodgudri, was a setback. The footage would have gone a long way in helping to trace the kidnapper.

Jodgudri called a meeting of representatives of hospitals and clinics at the Shivaji Nagar police station on Tuesday evening.

“We will request hospital and clinic representatives to install CCTV cameras at their facilities at the earliest. This would help in getting leads in case of any crime, even if the face of the perpetrator is not captured. We can keep an eye on their movements or check if they were accompanied by anyone. Also, in some cases, it would help prevent a crime since the accused would be unaware of the cameras,” said Jodgudri.
