BMC gets 4 weeks to reply to societies’ plea

The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to submit an affidavit in reply to a petition filed by a group of housing societies alleging that the BMC allowed additional floor space index of 77,563 sq ft worth Rs 155 crore under the guise of public interest to a developer.

A division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice SJ Kathawala has given the municipal corporation four weeks to reply on the PIL.

The petition, filed by Gulmohar Area Society’s Welfare Group, challenges the FSI benefit given to Shravan Developers, which is constructing a three-wing ground-plus-nine-floor building.

On Friday, the petitioner’s counsel Vibhav Krishna said the municipal corporation had caused a huge loss to the exchequer by sanctioning a proposal for 386 parking slots for the building that had 33 flats.

Shravan Developers’ counsel said the petition was an attempt to stall development.
