“The action on the 20 unauthorised units has begun. Taking preventive measures is the responsibility of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Food and Drug Administration,” said Mohan Adtani, additional municipal commissioner.

Mayor Sunil Prabhu said that he would write to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan demanding stern action against the guilty.

BMC opposition leader Dnyanraj Nikam questioned the steps being taken by the civic body to prevent such incidents.

Shiv Sena corporator Shubha Raul said that the health care department is working towards it. “It is, nonetheless, important for the administration to appeal to the state government to deliberate on the laws that govern colour poisoning,” said Raul.
