Developers will have to build a skywalk connecting to the nearby railway or metro station, car lifts for parking above three floors, install x ray machines and a changing room for drivers. In addition, parked cars will have to be retrieved within 15 minutes.

“People will not prefer the place if this process consumes lot of time,” said Aseem Gupta, additional municipal commissioner.

Builders have responded enthusiastically to the scheme and more than 50,000 parking slots are expected within the next two years.

“Parking on road slows down traffic and results in wastage of fuel. As we are providing parking slots, people should make use of them,” said Gupta.

The corporation has asked the traffic department to study 27 arterial roads, including LBS Marg and Dr Ambedkar Road, to recommend suggestions to for the scheme.
