“I know him since childhood. He can not commit suicide,” Borude’s younger brother, Prakash, told the Hindustan Times on Thursday.

Prakash, who was at the hospital at Loni to claim Borude’s body, said the circumstances leading to his death raised questions. Additional superintendent of police, Ahmednagar, Sunil Kadasne said a woman travelling on the Manmad-Daund passenger train that hit Borude corroborated the suicide theory.

“She saw him throw himself in the gap between the engine and the first bogie as the train slowed near Srirampur station,” Kadsane said. He said five other witnesses supported this.

Call records from the phone Borude was using suggested he was in touch with Prakash, police sources said “Why did Borude not give his location to Prakash?”Kadasne asked. He said Prakash had told him he had not been in touch with Borude for two months. Borude’s fingerprints and DNA samples have been preserved to help establish his role in the rape case, Kadasne said.
