Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: We Remember 26/11

The chapter of 26/11 attacks (2008), will always remain fresh in every Mumbaikar’s mind. However, an event in the city — Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: We Remember 26/11— plans to brighten moods and advise people to look at life with positivity. The show, that will take place at the Tata Theatre, NCPA tonight (monday), will showcase performances by choreographer Terence Lewis with his dance company, and music composer D. Wood, among others.

Talking about the act, Lewis says, “We are presenting three sequences, the first one being a theme-centric curtain raiser — depicting the perennial battle between good and evil. The second sequence is Ali Maullah, which is a dialogue with the divine, requesting him to open his doors and show himself. The final act is Teri Deewani- an ode to a true devotee.”

Wood and his team, on the other hand, will explore themes of materialism and over dependence on technology. He says, “There’s a very positive sentiment behind the event. What happened four years ago was terrible and the way the city coped with the shock was overwhelming. But I feel people also need to realise that they need to get exposed to a larger social image and there cannot be a better vehicle than music to drive home that message.” He will be joined by three American musicians for the performance: Jake Charkey with the cello, Tala Faral on the saxophone and Adrian D’Souza on drums. “We’ve created several new compositions for this event, the speciality being a couple of cowboy songs, which are simple yet beautiful,” says Wood.
