Bury differences, Uddhav tells Sena workers

Creating an amendment in the constitution of the party to create the post of president, the Shiv Sena decided that the post of Sena chief that was held by Bal Thackeray would remain with him. “Uddhav Thackeray will now have the power to appoint or remove leaders and take party decisions,” said senior Sena leader and legislator Subhash Desai after the meeting.

MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, “In his speech, Uddhav Thackeray said that everyone should bury their differences. No members of parliament (MP) or legislators are quitting the party. Uddhav said that he was confident that the party will move ahead.”

While Yuva Sena leader Aditya Thackeray was not given any official post, a resolution to merge the youth wing into the main party was moved. Four resolutions reiterating Sena’s stand on Hindutva, sons of the soil, women’s issues and the strategy for the 2014 elections were moved.

The expected reshuffle in the Sena line-up to replace the 4 vacant places with second-rung leaders close to Uddhav did not take place.

“This was the opportunity to declare the new team which will lead the party in the 2014 elections. But none of this happened,” said a legislator.

Taking the long list of aspirants and the impact a hasty decision could have on supporters into account,

Uddhav Thackeray is not too keen on taking the decision in a hurry, said sources.
