The incident took place near Govandi railway station on Saturday morning.

The deceased, who has been identified as Bilal Khan, was on his way to the station.

He was carrying a gunny bag full of shoes on his head. The police said that the bus driver, Bharat Narale (45), was driving the bus at a high speed. The bus hit Khan and crushed him, killing him on the spot.

“The angry mob held up traffic for some time and pelted stones at the BEST bus. A few other vehicles which were passing by were also pelted with stones,” said a police officer requesting anonymity.

The police rescued Narale from the mob and sent him to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar. Narale has been charged with rash driving and causing death due to negligence under the Indian Penal Code.
