The police said the 23-year-old victim, a small time television actress, who lives in Jogeshwari, a Mumbai suburb, filed a complaint on Saturday night.

The parents of the businessman, Ravindra Rastogi, have also been booked for cheating.

Rastogi, a children's garment trader, was allegedly in a relationship with the victim for nearly two years.

"Rastogi had met the victim a few years back ... He later promised to marry her," said a police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

Earlier this year, Rastogi allegedly told the victim he was not interested in marrying her.

"Infuriated, the victim approached Rastogi’s parents. But they sided with their son," the officer said. Following this, the victim approached the police.
