Cash and valuables worth over Rs 5 lakh were stolen.

The police said the complainant, Rajesh Sharma (43), along with his family had gone to his brother’s residence for the Ganpati festival on Sunday.

The accused then ransacked the house before breaking open the wooden cupboard.

He stole gold and diamond jewellery and Rs 50,000 collectively amounting to Rs 5,31,800, said the police.

When Sharma returned around 8pm, he found the lock broken and went into the house only to discover that the valuables were missing. He then approached the Amboli police. “We have lodged a case of house break-in theft against an unidentified person,” said Senior Police Inspector, K. Ghamande of Amboli police station.
