said Yusuf Ansari (30), a construction material supplier.

His work involves supervising the extraction of silt from rivers, which means standing for hours. But what is common to several professions is an uphill task for Ansari, who was badly injured in the legs after an autorickshaw driven by a drunk slammed into his motorcycle two years ago on the Eastern Express Highway.

Ansari, a Chembur resident and father of two, said the drunken driver jumped the signal, crashing into his bike head-on. The badly injured Ansari passed out.

“The next thing I remember was waking up in a hospital bed and seeing my damaged right leg swathed in bandages.

“The doctors fixed a rod in my leg, which allowed me to walk again. The doctors did their best, but my life is in ruins,” said Ansari.
