Cardinal pays visit to Christian art museum

The museum that opened in September at the St. Pius seminary in Goregaon is the first-of-its-kind in the city.

""The altars that we have in the museum were being junked when city churches were being renovated. However, we wanted to preserve them. That's how the idea of the museum fell into place," said Father Warner D'souza, head of the catholic church committee on heritage. Father D'souza was instrumental in gathering and preserving the local historical artifacts, which mark the origin of Christianity in Mumbai."

The museum that is open to the public by invitation, houses 150 objects that trace the evolution of Christianity in the city.

Cardinal Poupard was in the city as part of the programmes organised by the Cardinal Paul Paupard Foundation that he himself established in Bandra, two years ago, on his first visit to the city.
