“Considering the problems that socially backward students face while obtaining caste certificate validation in higher classes or while applying for professional courses such as MBA, we would like to begin the process at the school level. We are also trying to create an online facility to verify documents and issue caste certificates,” Rajesh Tope, higher education minister, said in the legislative council on Tuesday.

He was responding to BJP legislator Sayyed Pasha Patel who had brought up the issue during question hour. Pasha had pointed out that more than 25,000 students from socially backward classes were facing problems getting certificates. “I request one of the ministers to come and see how district officials in charge of issuing certificates behave,” Patel said.
