For the past few months, final year Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) students from KC College have been on their toes, trying to capture some of India’s crucial yet seldom-reflected contemporary issues on film.

For the past few months, final year Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) students from KC College have been on their toes, trying to capture some of India’s crucial yet seldom-reflected contemporary issues on film. Now, the students are set to showcase their efforts in Roll.Take.Turn — an annual film festival.

Nine films, of approximately 20 minutes each will be screened at the event, which is now in its 11th year. These films will be judged by established names from the industry. Previous years have seen eminent personalities like Meghna Gulzar, Rahul Bose, Sudhir Mishra and Madhur Bhandarkar judging the event.

The students have traveled across the country to document issues like poaching of marine life, the plight of army widows and illegal cultivation of cannabis, among others. And being a part of the BMM students’ final year projects, these films are made under the guidance of Nandini Sardesai, a visiting faculty and social activist.

“Students have been making some outstanding documentaries on contemporary issues, over the years. They put in a lot of effort, energy and money. They are unusually motivated and impressive. Hopefully, they will maintain the high standards this year too”, says Sardesai.
