More than three years after taking over the investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed an additional charge sheet against the nine accused arrested over September 2006 Malegaon blasts.

On Tuesday, CBI Counsel D.N. Salvi apprised the Bombay High Court about the development during the hearing of a petition filed by Noorulhuda Samsudoha, an accused.

The additional charge sheet does not take the prosecution case any further than what was done by the Anti-Terrorist Squad. The 20-page document reportedly adds tapped phone conversation between Abrar Ahmed and another accused, Mohammed Zahid. Noorulhuda had moved the high court, seeking discharge from the case.

Abrar had shown willingness to become an approver but later retracted his statement.

In the affidavit filed before the designated Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act court on April 18, 2009, Abrar indirectly suggested that the 2006 blasts was a handiwork of the alleged Hindu fanatics who had allegedly triggered another blast in Malegaon in 2008.

Abrar has stated that after the 2006 blasts, Anti-Terrorist Squad had taken him to places where he had seen most of the accused arrested in connection with 2008 Malegaon blast.
