CBI files FIR on Sohrab ‘fake’ encounter

The FIR was registered following a Supreme Court directive on January 12.

CBI officer P. Kandaswamy confirmed the development.

An FIR means a case has been registered and the police will investigate it.

CBI officials said that the FIR had been registered against the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad (ATS) and special task force of Rajasthan. However, no police official has been named in the FIR.

A CBI officer said the names of police officials would be added (in the FIR) once the probe began and their roles were established.

Sohrabuddin, his wife, Kausarbi, and his friend Tulsi Ram Prajapati were picked

up by a Rajasthan police

team while the three were on their way from Hyderabad to Sangli, 390 km southeast of Mumbai, on November 23, 2005. They were brought to Ahmedabad.

The Gujarat ATS later claimed to have killed Sohrabuddin in an encounter in Ahmedabad on November 26, 2005. It said that he had come to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
