CBSE to share students’ marks with state

In response to a request from the education department of the Mumbai region, the CBSE has written saying it will forward board exam marks of its students in Mumbai to the department to ensure that they can participate in the online admissions process.

“The board agreed to our request immediately, there will be no problem for CBSE students,” said an official from the education department.

Last year, the CBSE introduced the grading system for the first time, but sent marks of its students in Mumbai to the education department to ensure that these students would be able to apply to local junior colleges, which only accept marks.

Following from last year’s agreement, on February 11 the department had written to the CBSE and ICSE board asking for their students’ marks to be made available so that these could be fed into the online system.

A letter signed by BM Gupta of the CBSE board dated February 26 has agreed to the request for its students’ marks.

The department is awaiting a response from the ICSE board. If it sends the marks to the department directly, it will make the application process easier as ICSE students will not have to fill in their details manually. “We are confident about receiving a positive response from them as well,” said SR Chouhan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region.
