The Central Railway’s plans to start two new lines between Thane and Kurla to ensure more suburban services is getting delayed.
The lines were to have been started on April 3 but the work on the under-construction lines
Mooted 16 years ago, the plan to build the fifth and sixth lines between Kurla and Thane for direct movement of outstation trains from Kurla Terminus is yet to complete.
The CR had planned to connect the lines with the existing ones from this weekend and open train traffic from April 3. But is now postponed.
“The block which would have enable to carry out the connecting work of new lines has been postponed by a week,” said CR chief PRO Vidyadhar Malegaonkar.
The reason for deferring the work is that the two new lines on the Kurla-Thane stretch are not complete. Besides, an official also pointed out that police had alerted the CR that the residents at Vikhroli were planning to disrupt the work during the weekend’s mega block.
