Central Railway services take a hit after overhead wire snaps near Diva

Suburban services on the main line of Central Railway (CR) were delayed by more than half an hour during the morning peak hours on Saturday, after an overhead wire snapped near Diva station. It took around two hours for the CR to restore services. HT reports.

CR sources said the overhead wire of an up fast line local broke between Diva and Mumbra station around 8am. Services on the up fast line were diverted on to the slow line between Kalyan and Thane.

Two local trains and an outstation train were stuck due to the problem. “A CST-bound Khopoli local and an Ambernath local was held up in the section along with Vidarbha Expresss,” said a CR spokesperson. CR authorities said the services were restored around 9.45am.

“There was a mad rush on Dombivli station when I reached around 9.10am. I managed to board a CST-bound Kalyan local, but stood near the door till Thane as there was no space to go in,” said Dinesh Wagh, a Dombivli resident.

On Friday, a technical snag in a local at Vashi station had thrown harbour line services out of gear. Also, passengers had staged a flash agitation at CST station when a train arrived late, delaying services.
