The state government on Monday shrugged off the recent gaffe where exam centres of 1,800 final year Bcom students were changed two days before exams (on March 19), saying enough care was taken to ensure all students got to their exam centers in time.

"Not even one student complained about not being able to give the exam because of the change in exam centers," DP Sawant, minister of state for higher education, said in the legislative council on Monday.

He was replying to an issue raised by Sena legislator Deepak Sawant. “Did the government assess the situation and reprimand the officials who caused the problem?" Sawant questioned.

He said that the problem was isolated to students giving exams at NM College and DJ Sanghvi College. “The number of students allotted to the centre were double the seats available. There was an error in the central computing centre," said Sawant.

He added that the university had sent informed the institutes as soon as they noticed the error. "There were notices at the centers and people from the university were posted everywhere to ensure that if a student goes to the wrong centre, he would be allowed to take the exam wherever he is," said Sawant. He said that the head of the central control cell had been suspended.
