Mustafa Kari, 18, will soon be living his dream of attending lectures in a medical college. “I will be the first doctor in my family,” said Kari, who was declared the city topper at the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) for admission to a medical college, on Friday. Kari scored 195 out of 200, ranking fourth in the state.
“I had expected to score more than 190 in the exam. But not once had I imagined that I would outwit lakhs of other aspirants in my first attempt,” added the aspiring neurologist who wants pursue medicine at Seth GS Medical College, Parel.
On Friday, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) announced the results of the top 25 scorers of the 3,34,716 students, who appeared for the entrance test in May. The results will be available online (see box) on Saturday and students can collect their marksheets from their colleges on June 14.
This is the last state-level entrance test for health science courses. From next year, medical aspirants will have to take the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the Medical Council of India.
For Bhairavi Mehta, 17, a student of Mithibai College, Vile Parle, the unexpected announcement of results did not leave room for any tense moments. “I couldn’t hold back my tears when I was told that I was the city topper in the engineering entrance test,” said Mehta, who scored 195 out of 200, ranking second in the state. “I will be the third generation engineer in my family,” she added.

{{/usCountry}}The data released by DMER revealed that while six out of the top ten engineering test scorers belonged to Mumbai, only two city students managed to make it to the top ten list of the medical entrance test.
