Chain snatcher in cop net

The police arrested Ganesh Mani Narayan Swamy (27), who was allegedly involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents in the area in the past year. There are at least 18 cases, including assaulting police officers, registered against him.

An officer from Chembur police station said: “We had launched a manhunt after four cases of chain snatching were registered against Swamy at our police station. We are trying to find if he was involved in other incidents.”

Two years ago, Swamy had shot a policeman from Nehru Nagar police station inside the Vikhroli court premises.

“Fortunately, he was overpowered by the police. In another incident, when the Mankhurd police went to arrest him in connection with a chain-snatching case, he threw a brick at one of the constables,” the officer said.
