Senior leader Narayan Rane, who was the party’s campaign chief, criticized Chavan over the remarks. “He should not have made those remarks,” Rane told a news channel show from his hometown in Konkan.

The party’s state unit chief Manikrao Thakre said no case has been made out against Ashok Chavan, Shinde and Deshmukh in the Adarsh case.

“The statement (about seeking action against them) is unfortunate,” Thakre said, adding that a wrong message was sent out and it put a question mark on the party ahead of the polling.

An English daily had quoted Chavan saying that had he initiated action against former CMs Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan in the Adarsh case, the party would have been decimated in Maharashtra.

Thakre, who held the maximum number of rallies for his party, is reportedly not happy with Chavan as he believes he did not try reaching out to enough segments during the campaign.
