A major portion of a five-storeyed municipal building collapsed on Saturday evening crushing a seven-year-old girl under the debris and injuring six others.

The BMC building at NM Joshi Marg was a dilapidated structure and had been given notices by the ward office.
The child, Tahira Maqbool Shaikh, 7, lived in the slums built below the building and was playing outside her house when part of the roof of the building came crashing on her.
She was rushed to Nair Hospital and was declared dead on arrival. The six others who are injured are Rahena Sheikh, 4, Nawaz Sheikh, 8, Abbas Sheikh, 6, Shakira Sheikh, 35,Yasmeen Ismail Sheikh, 40 and Haseena Begumm, 55, who are recuperating at Nair Hospital.
They have sustained minor injuries in the head, shoulders and legs.
