The municipal corporation issues stop-work notices when developers fail to respond to its first warning and implement anti-malarial measures on their construction sites.

“We held a review meeting on Thursday and found that developers have been largely been following the norms. But there was a problem with a few sites,” said Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner.

Civic data shows that there are 2,513 construction sites in the city, of which 2,205 sites were issued warning notices by the corporation’s health department. Of these, 1,743 responded and took anti-malarial measures, which includes cleanliness on the site, clearing debris, avoiding water collection, among other things.

The municipal corporation, under attack for the unprecedented rise in malaria cases in the city, has drawn up guidelines to curb malaria at public places and construction sites.

“The Railways had been a problem, but now they have begun fumigation and other measures,” Mhaiskar said.
