Civic body to return Uddhav’s 4.99-lakh cheque

Civic chief Sitaram Kunte said, “The decision to install CCTV cameras and LED television screens was taken based on the recommendations of the police. We had to take the necessary precautions taking the number of supporters expected to attend the funeral into account.”

Following media reports, party president Uddhav Thackeray had, last week, given a cheque for Rs4.99 lakh to the civic body to bear the security expenses.

The party claimed that the Thackeray family had already incurred the costs for conducting the rituals.

“In case of events that attract huge crowds such as festivals, it is the responsibility of the civic body to take maintain law and order. The funeral was one such instance, where installation of CCTVs, LED television screens and other arrangements was vital to ensure complete security,” said Ram Dhas, BMC’s chief accountant (finance).
