Class 10 student drowns in nullah at BKC

A 16-year-old boy appearing for his Class 10 board exams drowned at a nullah behind the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on Saturday afternoon.

Majid Wajid Khan, a resident of Kurla, had gone to the nullah along with his three friends on Saturday.

“He and his friends had planned to go to the Savdi nullah behind the American School at BKC. They reached there around 3pm. After talking for some time, Khan’s friends jumped into the nullah,” said an officer from BKC police on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“Although Khan did not know swimming, he decided to join his friends,” said senior inspector Vinayak Saude.

After a few moments, Khan started struggling to stay afloat. His friends shouted for help and also tried to save him. But they could not get him out.

A few locals who heard the boys’ screams for help contacted the BKC fire brigade and the police.

The firemen fished Khan’s body out of the nullah. He was taken to the Bhabha Hospital in Bandra (West) where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
