Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has asked Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) to fill up 8,000 vacancies in the state government jobs as soon as possible.
“The [job] backlog affects the government’s work significantly. Try and fill up as many posts till March 2011,” Chavan told MPSC officials on Monday after launching the commission’s updated website www.mpsconline.gov.in.
CM’s visit to MPSC is said to be an attempt to encourage the commission that was once embroiled in recruitment scams. The employment backlog increased considerably because the MPSC had slowed down recruitment process after the scam.
Of late, the government has made sustained efforts to make the commission more transparent.
The new website is an attempt to expedite the recruitment process.
Various departments send their request for extra employees to MPSC that conducts recruitment examinations periodically.
Almost all posts in 325 service cadre (A, B and C class) are filled through the commission.
Chavan appointed a committee under Chief Secretary J.P. Dange to help boost MPSC’s functioning.
He assured the financial powers of the MPSC chairman would be enhanced.
“We will computerise everything, give commission a large office, more money and extra staff. We will also digitise old documents,” Chavan said.
