The sessions court on Thursday convicted a constable belonging to the Quick Response Team (QRT) for killing his colleague and injuring another after he accidentally fired the gun that he was allegedly toying with.

The court convicted Shekhar Dige, 28, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment.
The incident happened on May 5, 2010, when Dige, who reported for duty outside the QRT office on Carter Road, Bandra, where constables Shyam Padvi, 30, and Subash Kale were also present.
“Dige snatched Padvi’s gun and started playing with it,” said public prosecutor Usha Makasare. Dige had fired two rounds, which injured Kale and killed Padvi.
