A non-cognisable offence was registered against Abhishek and he was let off with a warning.

According to the complainant, Dr Randhir Kenjle, Abhishek impersonated a police officer and assaulted the doctor and his wife.

In his complaint, Kenjle, said that a motorcycle overtook his car near the Madni Industrial Estate at Tulsi Pipe Road, asking them to stop.

“Introducing himself as a police officer, the motorcycle rider started abusing my driver for violating traffic rules,” said Kenjle.

Kenjle said that the ‘policeman’ told him that the driver had overtaken from the left side. “I was ready to pay the fine, but then the rider slapped me. When my wife got out of the car he pushed her and started abusing us. I decided to call the police when I realised that the rider was drunk,” said Kenjle.

“I wanted to lodge an FIR against Aawte but the police registered a non-cognizable complaint and no action was taken against him. When police tried to question Aawte, he started boasting about his father and said that he was out of the country.

When contacted, Subhash Aawte refuted the allegations. “The driver was driving haphazardly and Abhishek was about to fall when he took a U-turn and stopped the car to confront the driver. Abhishek was talking to the driver when the doctor and his wife assaulted him,” said Aawte.

“My son then went to the police station with the doctor and lodged a non-cognizable complaint,” Aawte added. When asked if Abhishek was driving a motorcycle with a Mumbai police logo on it, Aawte said that the motorcycle was a private vehicle.

Ashok Unde, senior police inspector of Dadar police station said, “We have registered a non-cognizable complaint against Abhishek and left him with a warning,” said Unde. He added that Abhishek was not drunk and a warning was enough.

Milind Bharanbe, deputy commissioner of police, zone V, said that he would look into the matter and do the needful.
