Cop’s son mows down constable

A constable with the Local Arms Unit II was killed on Monday evening after a Qualis, being driven by the son of a police officer, mowed him down at Worli near the MTNL building.

The constable, Mohan Mungshe (50), was rushed to the KEM hospital where he was declared dead on admission.

The Worli police are on the lookout for the jeep’s driver, Amit Bhandare, who has been reported missing.

According to Tanaji Talvekar, a police officer from the Worli police station: “Mungshe, who stayed in Prabhadevi with his family, was on duty when the accident took place.”

He added, “Mungshe was on his way to his workplace when a speeding Qualis jeep rammed into him from behind. The jeep then crashed into an electric pole. The impact of the crash was such that Mungshe’s torso was completely crushed and all the vital organs were severely damaged. The front side of the jeep and the electric pole were also dented due to the impact.”

Senior Police Inspector Bharat Worlikar said, “Bhandare, is the son of an assistant sub inspector and stays in the Worli BDD area. When our officers reached his residence, he was not there at home. We suspect he is in hiding and are questioning his family and friends to get information to his whereabouts.”
