Cops building watertight case against 'Pak spy'

On December 8, 2010, the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai police crime branch had arrested Mozawalla. The police said Mozawalla was found in possession of a few certificates in Civil Aviation, a manual of communication and tactics meant for Islamic terror organisations and groups, telephone numbers and photographs of vital defence installations and many passports of Indian nationals who wanted to visit Pakistan.

The crime branch had claimed that he was indulging in espionage activities for two high-ranking officials in the Pakistan high commissioner’s office in New Delhi — identified as Colonel Sahab and Major Sahab.

Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime, told Hindustan Times that the documents confiscated from the suspect deemed to be notified and confidential under the Official Secrets Act. The places that had been photographed by Mozawalla fell under the category of ‘notified’ and ‘prohibited’ as per the act. The police alleged that he had passed those on to the Pakistani officials, which amounted to espionage and breach of official secrets.
